Challenge Colors for #CI62

When I first saw the Color Combo of Whisper White, Crushed Curry, Call Me Clover and Crumb Cake I must admit I did feel really challenged. These colors were bright and perhaps a bit out of my comfort zone.

However after looking at the inspiration photo for a few days I noticed that I was drawn to the textures and layers such the branches and burlap, ribbon and twine as much as the variation of the shade of colors.

This is why I like to play along in a color challenge; it really stretches your imagination and creativity!

Celebrate Your Day!

Here is my card! I was inspired to use a brand new stamp set from the Holiday Catalog available September 4th. It is called Seasonal Wreaths and coordinates with the All-Around Wreaths Dies also available September 4th.

I really love how my card turned out. Especially having the wreath come off the edge like that creates lots of interest, and I still feel there is lots of layers and textures despite I didn’t use any dies or punches.

For Step by Step Instructions read more below!

Step One

I stamped the wreath in Memento Black Ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock and colored the acorn and branches in with the Crumb Cake Combo Pack with the light and dark blends markers, the leaves with Call Me Clover light and dark blends, and because we don’t have Crushed Curry Blends I used the light and dark Mango Melody for the flowers and berries instead. For such small images it seemed like a good alternative.

For a finishing touch I added a bit of shimmer to the acorns, leaves, flowers and berries with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush.

Step Two

To mimic the layers from the inspiration photo I layered a strip of Crushed Curry from the Regals 6” x 6” Designers Series Paper Stack with a skinny strip of Call Me Clover from the 2018-20 In-Color 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper stack on top of a Thick Whisper White Card base.

On top of the layers I added two snippets of the Burlap Ribbon with Glue Dots. I tend to use tricks like that to stretch my supplies!

Step Three

For my sentiment I used the Call Me Clover and Basic Black Stampin Write Markers. Using the brush tip ends I colored directly on to the stamp. The trick is to put your marker at a 45 degree angle so not to crush the tip. Next you want to breath/huff on to the stamp to remoistening the ink. I then stamped on a piece of 1/2” strip of Thick Whisper White.

I trimmed the banner to apx. 3-1/2” long and shaped one end into a pennant.

Assembly

With all the stamping already done the card came together quickly. Adhering the card front to the mat with adhesive and then on to the cardbase with Dimensionals. I curled the banner between my fingers to form an S shape. There are two Dimensionals stacked on top of each other behind the Celebrate. The ends have Glue Dots.

Last I tied a bow with Linen Thread. I rolled a Glue Dot to fit behind the knot of the bow. Using the Take your Pick tool it was a breeze to slide the bow under the banner. I could still adjust the size of the bow before trimming the ends with scissors.
